“LEURALLA”, Toy & Rail Museum, 36 Olympian Parade, Leura. Built just before World War I, retains the original furnishings and effects which capture the grand family mountains home of the 1920’s. Leuralla stands in 12 acres of beautiful gardens with mature, rare trees, arbors and walkways. Opposite Leuralla is the amphitheatre which looks over the spectacular Jamieson Valley. The home holds one of the World’s largest collections of pre and post war toys, featuring trains, planes and automobiles and extensive model railway layouts.
9:00 for 9:30 depart. Meet at Glenbrook Info Centre, Great Western Highway, enter via Ross Street. Cafes at end of Ross St if you wish. Then we travel up the mountain to Leura, drive through the lovely Leura Mall shops, continue on this road, where it curves to the left (follow signs to Toy Museum) till the T intersection. Turn left into Olympian Parade. We will drive past Leuralla, to the end of the road to find Gordon Falls Reserve where we can have a relaxed Breakfast or Morning Tea. 2 electric BBQs. Some seating. Maybe you feel like cooking breakfast. If not, you could stop at the Bakehouse, 208 The Mall, if you wish to buy hot gourmet pies, pastries, cakes, espresso coffee – we pass this bakery just out of Leura Mall Shops – so food will stay hot.
We can then walk or drive to Leuralla and spend some time viewing the house, museum and wandering the gardens. Don’t miss the spectacular view of the Jamieson Valley across the road from Leuralla. After this is free time. We can go back to Gordon Falls Reserve for lunch or you can explore the area by foot or car.
