BUICK EAST COAST MEET
Thanks to the suggestion of Virginia Russell a couple of years ago, a very enjoyable weekend was spent in Nambucca Heads for the 10th Buick East Coast Meet for 2013. The 10th Anniversary (Tin) was acknowledged with a display of past trophies, photos and articles on the past East Coast /Interstate Meets. More information and photos are welcome for archival purposes.
A total of 52 Registrations, 27 from NSW, 17 from Qld, 5 from Victoria and one from WA- 49 Buicks, one Mustang and a couple of moderns attended and were blessed with wonderful weather. Matt and Cassie flew over from Perth to drive a borrowed ’71 for the meet.
The weekend started with Registration, Welcome drinks, Dinner on Friday, Group Photo, Run to Bowraville, Pub with No Beer at Taylor’s Arm, Macksville to the Pioneer Cottage, Dinner at the Golf Club (with the Election for entertainment) on Saturday, Sunday Show-n-Shine in the main street of Nambucca, free afternoon for drives to Urunga, Coffs etc. or a nap, Presentation Dinner at the RSL Club and finally the Farewell Breakfast on Monday.
As with most Buick Meets there are sometimes technical challenges with mechanical problems and this was no different. As usual though there were Buick friends there to help where possible.
My involvement with this Meet was different to previous, being the Co-ordinator this time. It has been a very interesting learning curve! Thanks to the committee John and Sue Stewart, Greg and Geraldine Massey and John and Maggie Saddington for helping to organise and fulfill the Meet, to Peter and Gwen Allen for filling in and helping on the weekend, to those who helped on the weekend and to those who took the time to fill out the Evaluation Forms. Thank you also to Tony Gentilcore for all the computer, technical and printing help.
Thank you to Brian and Linda Hall for the use of their club’s walkie talkies, for bringing a PA system and for entertaining everyone on Friday evening at the Welcome Dinner. The walkie talkies made communication easier for the committee.
Thank you to Jim and Virginia Russell for the donation of a cordless drill which was raffled with their permission at the presentation dinner and won by Barbara Gerdtz! $368 was raised and donations will be made to Urunga Surf Life Saving Club and the Lower North Coast Rural Fire Service.
Thank you to our sponsors: NRMA Veteran and Vintage Insurance, Nulon, Nambucca Valley Council, Bag People, Bowraville Chamber of Commerce, Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Products, Just Cars Magazine, Meguiars, Motoractive, Simple Green, Street Machine Magazine, Unique Cars Magazine. Thank you to the White Albatross Holiday Park, local Tourist Information Centre, Nambucca Chamber of Commerce and Nambucca Lions Club for their help.
By the comments on the forms and from people in person, it was an enjoyable weekend. We hope you had a good time with your Buick friends and maybe some new ones as well.
